Sterile-Z™

Reduce contamination

AORN recently changed their recommended practices to allow for covering of back tables, as long as the cover can be removed without breaking sterility.

Introducing Sterile-Z™ – The Back Table cover designed to maintain sterility of surgical instruments and implants prior to surgery without risk of contaminating the sterile field upon removal.

Sterile-Z™ separates from the center with its patent-pending “Z-Fold,” and is removed from the table without contaminating the instruments or implants that it protects.

Clinical Feedback on Sterile-Z has been overwhelmingly positive since its introduction at AORN 2014.

Infection Cost

Complies with AORN 2014 Recommended Practice
“when there is an unanticipated delay, or during periods of increased activity, a sterile field that has been prepared and will not be immediately used, may be covered with a sterile drape.”1

Reduces Costly Infection Risk
The average cost of a Surgical Site Infection (SSI) is approximately $33,000*. As of October 2008, hospitals can no longer bill for certain Hospital Acquired Infections (HAI). Sterile-Z protects the sterile field during unanticipated delays or periods of increased activity. The number of sterile field breaches is a known risk for surgical site infection (SSI). Actively striving to prevent SSIs benefits the patient and the hospital. Surgeons will appreciate the investment in sterility to prevent SSI in their patients.

Saves valuable O.R. Time and reduces waste
Sterile-Z can be applied in less than ten seconds with one sterile operator and removed in less than five seconds with two non-sterile operators and eliminates the cost and delay of tearing down and setting up a new back table. By draping the back table during delays, Sterile-Z improves efficiency and saves money for each case in which it is employed. The expense of Sterile-Z is more than accounted for by reducing surgical site infection risk (33K).
